After registering a car

Where to go
Any accredited centre, wherever the car is registered (Law on Road Traffic, Art. 11). The Accreditation Center register lists 42 active vehicle inspection bodies (gac.gov.ge, 11 October 2026).
How to find your date
The deadline for the next inspection is stated in the inspection report and counts from the date of the last inspection (Resolution No. 510, Art. 5.27). pti.ge and greenway.ge show the date by plate number (checked 11 October 2026).
Who oversees it
Centres are accredited by the Accreditation Center, and since 3 January 2025 the Land Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy has monitored the inspection process (Law on Road Traffic, Art. 11). Fines are issued to drivers by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Administrative Offences Code, Art. 118, note 2).

How to get your car inspected

  1. Check the date

The deadline is in the report from your last inspection (Resolution No. 510, Art. 5.27). No report? Enter your plate number on pti.ge or greenway.ge. You can go before the deadline: the next one will then count from the date of the new inspection.

  2. Choose an accredited centre

Any centre in any city will do (Law on Road Traffic, Art. 11). The list is in the Accreditation Center register on gac.gov.ge, subcategory "Periodical Technical Inspection Center". You can book on the centres' websites; on pti.ge a booking costs 1 ₾ and is not refunded if you don't show up (pti.ge, 11 October 2026).

  3. Bring the registration certificate and pay

You need the vehicle registration certificate (original or copy) and proof of payment. The car must be clean (Resolution No. 510, Art. 5.15). Cars running on gas also need a valid inspection certificate for the gas cylinder system (Art. 5.32).

    60 ₾ for a passenger car, 48 ₾ for an electric car
  4. What is checked

Vehicle identification, brakes, steering, visibility, lights and electrical equipment, axles, wheels, tyres and suspension, chassis, other equipment and emissions (Resolution No. 510, Art. 5.31). For example, tread on a passenger car must be at least 1.6 mm and tyres no older than 10 years; an ABS or SRS warning light is a major defect (Annex 1).

  5. Failed? You have 30 days to fix it

With a major or dangerous defect, the car fails. Fix it and come back for a re-inspection within 30 calendar days at any centre: only the items noted and the car's exterior are checked (Resolution No. 510, Arts 5.19–5.24). With a dangerous defect, you may not drive on public roads (Art. 5.26). Too late: a full inspection at the full price; failed the re-inspection: a full inspection within 10 days (Arts 5.23, 5.25¹).

    20 ₾ for a passenger car, 15 ₾ for an electric car
  6. Fix minor defects before the next inspection

With minor defects the car passes, but they are noted in the report. If they are not fixed by the next inspection, they count as major (Resolution No. 510, Arts 5.27, 5.27¹).

Foreign-registered cars

The Law on Road Traffic (Art. 11) requires inspection for vehicles used in Georgia and registered under Georgian law. It sets no separate obligation for foreign-registered cars, while Resolution No. 510 allows them to be inspected (Arts 3, 5.32). According to pti.ge, the requirement does not apply to cars that have not cleared customs or have transit plates (FAQ, viewed 11 October 2026).

60 or 90 ₾

The 60 ₾ fee for a passenger car appears in the 2017, 2019 and 2022 versions of Resolution No. 37; the latest version is of 9 December 2022 (matsne.gov.ge, checked 11 October 2026). In July 2024, the association of inspection centres proposed raising the price to 90 ₾ from 2025 (NewsGeorgia, 4 July 2024). The resolution has not been amended since.

How the first deadline is counted

Resolution No. 37 counts deadlines from the car's date of manufacture. Resolution No. 510, for the switch to compulsory inspection in 2019, tied the deadline to the month and day of registration in the registration certificate (Art. 8.7). The rules do not say directly how the two combine for a particular car, so go by the deadline in your inspection report or on pti.ge.

Can you drive during the 30 days after failing

The regulation expressly bans driving only with a dangerous defect (Art. 5.26). According to pti.ge, you can drive with a major defect during those 30 days without being fined (FAQ, viewed 11 October 2026).

Inspection for motorcycles

Motorcycles and mopeds (category L) are currently exempt (Resolution No. 510, Art. 3). According to NewsGeorgia, the state set a deadline of the end of 2025 for preparing regulations on inspecting motorcycles; when the rules will take effect is unknown (NewsGeorgia, 24 July 2025).

An official online date check

We did not find a government service for checking the inspection date by plate number. pti.ge is a private platform run by TUT LLC, and greenway.ge is the website of the Greenway Georgia network of centres. The document you can rely on is the inspection report (Resolution No. 510, Art. 5.27).
