Pets in Georgia: bringing them in and registration by 2027

To enter: microchip, rabies vaccination, veterinary certificate. Register dogs and cats in the single database by 1 January 2027 or face a 1,500 ₾ fine.

What to do

  1. Microchip

    ISO 11784 standard, readable by an ISO 11785 scanner. First the chip, then the vaccination.

  2. Rabies vaccination

    Not before 12 weeks of age, and after the chip. The first vaccination becomes valid after 21 days.

  3. Check whether you need an antibody test

    It depends on the country you are travelling from:

    The country is on the listNo test is needed if you travel directly or change only in listed countries. If you change in a country that is not listed (for example, Turkey), sign a declaration that the animal did not leave the vehicle or the international airport. The list includes, for example, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, the USA and the UK.
    The country is not on the listA test is needed: at least 0.5 IU/ml. The blood sample is taken 30 days or more after the vaccination and at least 3 months before travel. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Turkey are not on the list.
  4. Parasite treatment

    Against worms and against external parasites.

  5. Documents for the border

    A veterinary certificate or pet passport, and a declaration signed by you that the trip is non-commercial.

  6. Registration in the database

    At a vet clinic, shelter, breeder or municipal service. Pets already living with you: by 1 January 2027. New pets: within 15 days.

Entry from EU countries

No EU country is on the list of countries that do not need an antibody test. The documents do not make it clear whether a test is needed when entering from the EU. Check with the National Food Agency before you travel.

Registration deadline for a pet you bring with you

The deadline is 15 days for new pets, and 1 January 2027 for pets already living with you. The sources do not say which deadline applies to an animal you bring with you. It is safer to register it within 15 days of entry.

What do I need to enter with a dog or cat?

A microchip, a rabies vaccination, parasite treatment, a veterinary certificate or passport, and your declaration of non-commercial travel. From some countries, you also need an antibody test.

Do I need an antibody test if I am travelling from Russia?

No, if you travel directly or change only in listed countries: Russia is on the list. If you change in Turkey, you need your declaration that the animal did not leave the vehicle or the international airport. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Turkey are not on the list.

Which animals must be registered?

Dogs and cats. The registration law applies only to them.

By when must I register my pet?

If it already lives with you, by 1 January 2027. A new pet, within 15 days.

What is the fine for not registering?

1,500 ₾. The fine applies from 1 January 2027.

Do I have to neuter my dog or cat?

By law, yes, except show, approved breeding and service animals. If you register the pet in the database before 1 January 2027, the requirement does not apply to it. From 2027 the fine is 1,500 ₾.
