The number is registered in your name: Magti records your passport number or the personal number from your ID card in the contract. At Tbilisi airport, all three operators sell SIM cards, and Silknet and Cellfie are open 24 hours. At Kutaisi airport, there are Magti, Silknet (open 24 hours) and Cellfie (open for arriving flights). At Batumi airport, Silknet is open from 9:00 to 20:00 and Cellfie opens for arriving flights; Magti's page for tourists names only Tbilisi and Kutaisi. Magti's 30 ₾ package already includes the SIM: 3,000 MB, calls and SMS within Georgia and 30 minutes of international calls for 15 days. The 15 ₾ package gives 5,000 MB and SMS within Georgia with no calls, and according to the Georgian version of the page, the SIM for it costs another 10 ₾. That comes to 25 ₾ in total. Do not take a number registered to someone else: you will not be able to port it to another operator.
- For an eSIM, check your phone and how to buy it
Not every phone supports eSIM; the operators' websites list compatible models. Cellfie sells an eSIM for 1 ₾ on its website, 24 hours a day, and the QR code is then stored in the MyCellfie app. Silknet sells one for 5 ₾ on its website after a remote check: you need a selfie and a photo of your ID card or passport. Magti charges 10 ₾ and sets up an eSIM through MyMagti or at any service centre. Since 6 December 2024, a Magti eSIM you have bought can be activated up to 5 times.
- Get home internet
Of the three operators, Magti and Silknet offer home fibre. Check that your address is covered and apply on the website or by phone: Magti on 11 00 11, Silknet on 032 2 100 100. Silknet Start+ at 65 Mbps costs 37 ₾ a month in Tbilisi (30 ₾ for the first 3 months for new subscribers) and 30 ₾ in the regions. Installation is free under a promotion; otherwise it costs 120 ₾ in Tbilisi and 100 ₾ in the regions. The Wi-Fi router is lent to you free of charge. Magti's 70 Mbps plan costs 40 ₾ for 30 days in Tbilisi and 33 ₾ in the regions; the regional price is marked as a promotion, with no end date given.
- Port your number through the new operator
You apply to the operator you are moving to: at a shop, on its website or in its app. Operators are not allowed to charge for porting. Under the Communications Commission's rules, porting is completed within 24 hours of the new operator registering the request in the central porting database. This deadline has applied since 1 March 2018 and is counted in working days: weekends and public holidays do not count. If a courier delivers the SIM, this can be extended to 5 working days by agreement. You will be without service for no more than 3 hours, unless agreed otherwise. Your remaining balance is transferred to the new account, minus the cost of the transfer. The request will be refused if the number is not registered to you, if you owe money for previous months, or if fewer than 30 days have passed since you bought the number or last ported it.

Grey areas: no official answer yet
Silknet asks for a selfie and a photo of your document, Cellfie's online purchase has an "Identification" step, and Magti sets up eSIMs through MyMagti. The operators' websites do not say whether a foreign passport is accepted in online verification. If it does not work, get an eSIM at a shop: Magti does this at any service centre.
Since 4 September 2026, operators may check subscriber details against the Agency's database and refuse to sign a contract if the details do not match and the person cannot be clearly identified. Contracts signed before that date can be checked within 6 months. If they find a mismatch, they will send you a notice: you have 30 days to correct your details, after which your service may be stopped. The resolution does not say how this works for foreigners without a Georgian personal number, and we found no clarification from the Communications Commission. If your number is registered to someone else or with incorrect details, re-register it in your own name.
Magti and Silknet do not say on their tariff pages whether the owner's consent is needed for a connection. Installation takes place in the flat, so agree it with the landlord in advance. If the internet is already connected in the landlord's name, decide who pays and whether the contract needs to be transferred.
